The learning objectives of the activity were to arrange events in chronological order using the present tense and to organize the biography of a famous athlete. The main advantage of the TimeToast tool is the motivation it provides to students by using computers and tablets. Cooperative learning also fosters a positive and collaborative classroom environment.
Specifically, the activity involved researching information on the Internet about the life of a famous athlete of their interest. This way, they engaged in reading in the target language. Afterwards, they had to fill out a worksheet where they were asked for specific information.
Finally, once they had completed the reading and the worksheet, the students had to organize the athlete’s biography using a timeline with TimeToast.
Initially, the students were receptive; however, they encountered many difficulties accessing the application since it was in English and not very intuitive for them. Nonetheless, once they started working, they became familiar with it and completed the task efficiently.
If I were to repeat this activity, I would provide students with pre-selected texts to prevent the activity from taking too long and to help them select information more accurately. Lastly, TimeToast has helped achieve the learning objectives by being a visual and user-friendly tool that allows organizing events or occurrences of any kind, as well as reinforcing the use of the simple present tense in the 1st year of ESO.
