The implementation of Edpuzzle

The edited video was used right at the beginning of a new learning situation, in this case, the 5th one, for the 1st-year ESO course. Since the central theme is natural disasters, a related video was chosen.

Therefore, the day before starting the new learning situation, I assigned them to watch the video on EdPuzzle via Moodle (explaining how to access and register). The following day, we introduced the new learning situation, generating expectations and analyzing their prior knowledge. In this way, we briefly discussed the video, relating it to the unit title: "Newsflash", and speaking in the target language. Then, we created a word cloud to assess their basic knowledge. The prior viewing of the video allowed for a smoother conversation, as most students had understood it. However, a common issue arose: not all students had completed the listening activity the previous day, so they were unable to participate in the discussion.

To address this, we watched the video together to ensure no student was left behind and completed it simultaneously. Afterwards, we read a news article that included the key vocabulary to be studied, and students completed several reading comprehension activities.

In conclusion, the tool was well received by the group, as it provides a more visual and engaging way to develop listening comprehension, making the activity more attractive and easier to complete. Moreover, this tool offers versatility, as it can be used in multiple ways: as part of the flipped classroom methodology, as a reinforcement activity, to generate expectations at the start of a new topic, etc. It thus becomes a highly useful and enriching tool in the teaching-learning process, adapting to different learning paces by fostering student autonomy.
